The main production of UniTechne OÜ is oil shale fuel oil, which is obtained by processing oil shale.

The advantages of shale fuel oil over petroleum fuel oil are the oil’s low viscosity and sulfur content and low pour point. Shale fuel oil mixes well with conventional fuel oils, making it possible to obtain products that meet the desired specifications.

Due to its low sulfur content, lower viscosity and low pour point, shale fuel oil is mainly used to improve the properties of heavy fuel oil, including as an additive to marine fuels, as a raw material for the chemical industry, and for heating boilers and industrial furnaces. Although most of the production is exported, shale oil is used in dryers, asphalt plants and industrial and small boilers.

We extract a valuable alkylresorcinol mixture from shale oil.

Total shale oil phenols contain mono-, di-, and trialkylresorcinols, but the main component of the alkylresorcinol mixture is 5-methylresorcinol. We produce various shale oil phenol fractions, such as Honeyol and Rezol, for different applications. The composition of the mixture allows oil shale alkylresorcinols to substitute for resorcinols, bisphenol A and synthetic phenol.

Our products can be used for a variety of purposes, such as being key elements of finished goods and intermediary products used to produce finished goods, and to increase the functionality and durability of the goods.

2-methylresorcinol can also be used as a raw material in liquid crystals and photo-chemical manufacture.

The field of application of oil shale chemicals is extremely broad. Our fine chemical products are used worldwide in the manufacture of pigments, liquid crystals and pharmaceuticals, as a hair dye component, in textile dyeing and in fur tanning. Fine chemical products are also used as analytical chemicals.

UniTechne OU sells high-quality limestone gravel produced in the Ojamaa mine. It is an excellent material for road construction and landscaping, as well as an aggregate, eg in concrete production.
